Since Elderado Canyon near Tunnel 8, the tracks have (off and on) been following South Boulder Creek, located to the right of the tracks in the frame. In the Rio Grande days, the west switch of Cliff was interesting as it was a "Y" switch. There was a bit of a diverging both for the main and the siding. This is the first time in well over a year that I've seen eight Superliners on the Zephyr. Hope it becomes a regular thing! Interestingly, the Zephyr has eight Superliners this morning! There is a third coach on the train. For many years before COVID, this was the standard on the Zephyr. Since COVID, it dropped to seven. Is this a one time thing, or a sign that demand has picked up and Amtrak is adding supply to accommodate? Time will tell... Amtrak is actively working to repaint their fleet of P42DCs in their new Phase 7 scheme. No doubt, in just a few years, catching the Zephyr (or any long distance train) with Phase 5 P42DCs will be the focus of every railfan as Phase 7 because the dominant scheme. It is a very popular spot for some great shots of both westbounds and eastbounds. This morning, a Zephyr with a standard consist (for 2024) crosses the grade crossing on its way west. Off in the hazy distance, you can see the Denver skyline. Humidity this morning is around 50%, which is quite a bit higher than what is normal for the Denver-Metro area. The train is slightly longer than Eisele. This is pretty typical for coal train at Eisele as Eisele is one of the shorter sidings on the east slope of the Moffat. The unit, originally a C44AC-CTE, was rebuilt by GE/Wabtec and is now designated as a C44ACM. The unit also received a fresh paint job, sporting UP's new "standard" scheme as of 2023. The flags have been moved to the nose, the wings have been removed from the nose, and the long hood now just read "Union Pacific". Much as it did 25 years ago.
