UP's DS-378 is unable to get the switch to lock up, so the conductor will have to put it in hand throw and the train will get authority to flag by the red. Specifically, the train just crossed Carr Street and is running alongside Oberon Road. The elementary school I attended is located just a few blocks north of this location. When I was kid, I would go out at recess, climb the monkey bars, and hope to see the top of a few Rio Grande tunnel motors leading a train over this stretch of track! The detector has a wire suspended around the track. The closest the wire gets to the track matches the closest a tunnel wall (or ceiling) gets to the track. The Ski Train is right on time here as it charges west out of Leyden. In fact, the train will make up a little time and arrive at the base of the slopes in Winter Park 12 minutes early. The train was slightly delayed in departing Winter Park as it had to wait for the Moffat Tunnel to vent after a 25 minute late Zephyr went into the tunnel first. However, you can catch it in a little bit of direct sunlight close to the Moffat Tunnel. Here, the train is passing by the handful of houses found in Tolland. Most are summer houses, currently boarded up and empty. However, one single house, which the Zephyr is about to pass, is home to a Gilpin County Sheriff.
