This Ferromex SD70ACe, which normally spends its time south of the border on home rails in Mexico, is currently being leased to BNSF and is helping out on a northbound train at Evans Street on the Joint Line.

A visitor from across the southern border is helping out on a northbound BNSF train this Sunday afternoon. Ferromex is the main railroad in Mexico, along with Kansas City Southern de Mexico. This particular unit looks like it could stand a bit of fresh paint. The door is also open. This is actually the second time I've noticed the nose door open on a Ferromex unit in Colorado.

Well, I cannot tell you why, but for some reason, the nose door is missing from this Ferromex SD70ACe! The unit is currently power-shared with BNSF. I cannot help but wonder if the unit is making its way back to Mexico and home rails so the nose - and whatever else might need repairing - can be fixed.

Ferromex is one of the two largest railroads in Mexico. Not too long ago, Ferromex unveiled a new paint scheme that focuses on gray. The old scheme had green in it, which is essentially been dropped in this new scheme. Prior to this shot, I had not seen one in person. This one was helping out as a DPU on an eastbound BNSF Provo-Denver manifest.

A pair of Ferromex SD70ACes are on the front end of a westbound coal empty at Tolland. The green and red units are likely not use to this high altitude and snowy weather as the train is just a few miles east of the Moffat Tunnel.

Always great to catch some foreign visitors on the Moffat from time-to-time. A pair of SD70ACes from south of the border are helping out a westbound BNSF coal empty. The train will load in Utah and head back east in a few days. With a little luck, maybe the FXE units will lead the eastbound. These are actually the first two EMD FXE units that I've seen in person!

It's always fun to catch power that is foreign to the area. Along the Front Range, it is pretty much all BNSF and UP, all the time. So seeing a visitor from the south such as this Ferromex ES44ACs is particularly cool.

This massive Provo-Denver (with six units on the point and one DPU on the tail end) had to stop and tie down here at Rocky. At the time, BNSF had no room train in the yard. A van is coming out from Denver to pick up the crew and take them to their hotel. When the yard is ready, a Denver-based crew will come out and take the train the remaining 17 or so miles in to the yard.

I caught this train above the tracks at East Cliff and then hustled down to the base of Coal Creek to get ready for a shot. Fortunately, the train was restricted to 20 MPH between Crescent and Rocky due to high winds. That gave me some extra time to climb around in the Jefferson County Open Space to try to find the best perspective possible.

An amazing consist rounds the curve at MP 23, right at the base of Coal Creek Canyon. Fortunately, mother nature cooperated and the skies are nice and sunny as the train continues east.

The first five units in this rainbow consist are units that I actually shot earlier this week on Wednesday and Thursday. Units four and five were on the Denver-Provo on Wednesday (along with another NS unit that is not on this train). Units one, two, and three led the Denver-Provo on Thursday.

A very colorful consist emerges from the east portal of Tunnel One. Only two of the six units on the head end of this eastbound are BNSF, but the train itself is indeed BNSF. The first three units were on a Denver-Provo which I shot a few days ago on Thursday.

Looking down from high above the east end of Cliff, we find a Ferromex ES44AC, a KCS SD70ACe, a pair of BNSFs and a pair of Norfolk Southern units all leading the Provo-Lincoln. The train is about to cross over South Boulder Creek and enter 29, the west end of the Tunnel District.

An eastbound BNSF Provo-Lincoln has a "rainbow" consist as it rounds the bend toward the east switch of Cliff. This train was at Glenwood Springs at 7:22am...so he made impressive time to be here at Cliff five hours later!
